Roof & Chimney Scaffolding
What scaffolding do you need for roof and chimney work?
Roof and chimney work needs a scaffold with a boarded working lift at gutter height, edge protection to every open edge, and — for chimney work — a chimney stack scaffold that gives safe standing access around all four sides of the stack. STR Scaffolding designs and erects roof and chimney scaffolds across Surrey and South London for re-roofs, roof repairs, repointing, chimney rebuilds and removals, leadwork, fascias and guttering. We include debris netting to protect the area below, and can add a crash deck or temporary roof where tiles are being stripped. Our scaffolders are CISRS-trained, we work to NASC standards and we are insured to £10 million.

Roofers need to be able to work along the whole roof line safely, with somewhere to stack tiles and get materials up. Chimney work needs more: a stack scaffold above the roof slope with proper access, so the work can be done standing up rather than reaching from a ladder. We design both around the pitch and the height of the roof, and around whatever is below — a conservatory, a driveway, a neighbouring garden or a public footpath.
Working lift at gutter height
Fully boarded platform running the length of the roof with guardrails and toe boards.
Chimney stack scaffolds
Safe standing access to all sides of the stack for repointing, rebuilds and removals.
Edge protection
Guardrails and toe boards to every open edge to stop falls and material rolling off.
Debris netting and sheeting
Contains dust, tiles and mortar so the ground below stays safe and clean.
Crash decks
Protection below the roof line where tiles are being stripped or work runs overhead.
Temporary roof option
Full weather cover if the roof will be open for more than a day or two.
Roof and chimney jobs we scaffold
We work for roofing contractors and chimney specialists as well as directly for homeowners. On period properties — the Victorian and Edwardian terraces common across Epsom, Sutton and Kingston — stacks are often tall, shared with a neighbour, or in poor condition, so the scaffold has to be designed to give proper access without loading the stack itself.
- Full re-roofs and tile or slate replacement

- Chimney repointing, re-flaunching and pot replacement
