Roof & Chimney Scaffolding

Almost always, yes. Working on a stack from a ladder is unsafe and most reputable chimney contractors will not do it. You need a scaffold to gutter height plus a chimney stack scaffold giving standing access around the stack. It is a small scaffold compared with a full re-roof, and it is what makes the job insurable and safe.

It is a scaffold built up from the main roof scaffold, over the roof slope, to form a boarded platform around the chimney at a working height. It lets the contractor stand level and work on all faces of the stack, and it protects the roof covering from being walked on and cracked.

Yes. We bridge over conservatories, flat roofs and extensions using beams so no weight sits on the glazing or roof covering. This is routine on rear elevations and we design it in at the survey stage.

We fit debris netting as standard on roof work, and can add sheeting or a crash deck where tiles are being stripped. If a neighbour’s property, a footpath or a driveway sits below the work, we design containment for it and discuss access with you beforehand.

Sometimes — particularly on terraced houses and shared party chimney stacks. If we do, we will tell you at the survey and, where you prefer, speak to the neighbour directly to explain what is involved and how long the scaffold will be there.

A typical two-storey house roof scaffold goes up in a few hours to a day, and we can usually be on site within a few days of your go-ahead. Adding a chimney stack scaffold or a temporary roof extends that, and we will give you the timings when we quote.
